Sahalie Falls can be located right off Hwy 126, near MP5 outside of McKenzie Oregon. The falls are just a short 100 feet from the rest stop parking lot, making this an idea stop for those looking for a quick view.
Although there are fences along the trial I didn’t feel close enough to the falls. I wanted to feel the midst on my face, not just look at it from a safe distance. Against the wishes of my traveling companions I hopped over the short wooden barrier and started making my way towards the water. It didn’t take long to realize why people were blocked off from the area. The grass was soggy and sucked your foot in, while the rocks were overtaken by moss, making it slippery beyond comparison. The combination of both made for very uneasy footing, yet I was determined.
It didn’t take long to reach the base of the falls. The overspray soaked my clothes as quickly as a garden hose would have, so I didn’t dare risk getting a picture so close. I felt invigorated by the thick mist, and when I turned to walk back to my friends who waited I knew it was going to be a fantastic day. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to walk the trail that time. There was somewhere else I was suppose to be.
